Mike Rolls

In September 2001, at the age of 18, Mike was struck down with the deadly meningococcal virus while on a routine football trip. As a result he suffered extensive injuries and was given a 5 percent chance of survival.

Mike’s journey back to health has been aided by his strong will, courage, endless determination, his incredibly supportive family but most of all the unwavering emphasis he
places on positivity!

Take a walk with Mike, be humbled by his incredible life story, and gain insight into true adversity and the drive needed to overcome the odds, in the face of crisis. Mike is a passionate volunteer of the amputee support charity Limbs 4 Life and has a desire for
helping others who endure similar life changing events. Incredibly Mike has a golf handicap of 6 – lower than before his illness.

Be encouraged, be inspired and be entertained!

Topics:

Find your Upside – Identifying the upside in any circumstance in order to maintain focus, reach our goals and increase resilience.
Challenge toxic beliefs – Discussing the restrictions irrational, toxic beliefs can place on our lives. Mike challenges thought processes and encourage stronger self belief.
Beyond the comfort zone – Breaking out of the comfortable norm – Mike believes that it’s imperative for both personal and professional growth to be outside our comfort zones, to think differently and embrace change.

Testimonials

Your calm, humorous and understated approach engages those that you meet and belies the enormously strong and resilient person that you clearly are.

Your story brought many of us back to the reality that we are and we can be whatever we want to be. Faced with very significant challenges, you chose to fight to overcome them and you are pressing on to pursue your hopes and your dreams.

The random nature of the virus that struck you down made many of us think about the importance of living every day to the full and to thus avoid any future need for regret.

The family thread in your story was something that many of the team also commented on. Those with strong family ties questioned whether they appreciated their family enough; and a number of us who were more family distant were challenged to re-assess, re-connect and rebuild on some family relationships that we have let drift.

Another key message that we all took, was that of ”letting go of the baggage”. The manner in which you linked into that theme was the most confronting (positively) and emotional way I have ever seen it done. Many of us parents had “watery” eyes at that stage of your presentation.

As you can tell, our team took much from what you had to say. On behalf of the team I will summarise by saying we think you are living proof of the incredible power of the human spirit and the way that you approach life is a lesson for us all.
