Peter Charleston is a counselling and coaching psychologist and an expert in blending professional and personal development.
Peter has been a Psychologist and psychotherapist for 25 years and runs his own business in Melbourne, Australia. Peter combines personal and professional development services, and specialises in treating high-functioning professionals, providing a blend of psychotherapy and coaching for individual clients, couples and families to help them reach their potential. Peter also provides training, teambuilding and facilitation to groups and teams. Peter is regularly invited to speak on topics related to performance, leadership, stress, team engagement and emotional intelligence in the workplace.
Peter began his career in 1993 at the Cairnmillar Institute, progressing to Senior Psychologist and facilitator of the popular “Practical Psychology for Effective Living’ workshops, attracting more than 50 people every week for several years. Peter then spent 10 years as Staff Psychologist and Organisational Development consultant for Alfred Health, a role that gradually became more part-time as his private practice expanded. In this role Peter coordinated hospital debriefing and counselling teams, and facilitated change management and leadership programs for many of the 7000 staff from 5 campuses.
Peter has been a sessional university lecturer and tutor in medical ethics, stress and work-life balance, featured in National newspapers for expert comments, and was an on-air therapist for the Channel 7 couples reality show ‘The Seven Year Switch’ in 2016 and 2017.
In 2018 Peter became an author, with the publication of ‘Closer’, published by Echo Publishing.
Peter presents complex psychological issues in plain speaking that is easy-to-understand and implement. Peter is a warm, engaging and enthusiastic speaker who is generous with his knowledge and experiences. Peter can challenge an audience, always with compassion and sometimes a touch of cheekiness.
