Steve Mushin is an industrial designer, author, illustrator and science storyteller. He collaborates with scientists and engineers to develop outrageous sounding, but scientifically possible plans to rewild cities – to stir public debate, and prove what’s possible.
Steve runs high-energy, creative thinking, illustration and design workshops with engineering consultancies, tech start-ups, universities, government departments, and schools. He uses his own wild ‘design thought experiments’ as starting points to get participants having fun, inventing ideas and thinking outside the square about the future in their own field.
In 2015, Steve was awarded an Australian Design Honours for his work in sustainability design.
Steve Mushin’s award winning science and design book Ultrawild, An Audacious Plan to Rewild Every City On Earth (Allen & Unwin, Nov 2023) was described by The Guardian as: ‘a brain-meltingly intricate and inspiring compendium of the gigantic ideas needed to repair the planet.’
James Renwick, IPCC Climate Scientist says: ‘If this book does not fire your imagination, nothing will. A dazzling achievement – for literature on climate change, it is in a league of its own.’
