Browsing through the Archibald Prize finalists of any given year, you can always expect to spot some famous faces. We might be a little biased, but we think the stars of this year’s prize are of an especially high calibre!
Among the many Australian of note selected were Speaking Out friends Benjamin Law, Nakkiah Lui (below) and Mariam Veiszadeh (feature image).
The Archibald Prize is awarded to the best portrait ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics,’ painted by an Australian artist in the last 12 months. This year’s winner, Tony Costa with his portrait of contemporary Australian artist Lindy Lee, takes home a prize of $100,000.
The portraits will be on display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales until September, before heading off on tour of regional New South Wales and Victoria.
